Vegan Snacks: Nakd Bars

I'd love to be the healthy friend, the one that prepares snacks for the week ahead on a Sunday and rules the tupperwares (or mason jars if their particularly trendy). But well, I'm not. Every now and again I surprise myself, but it never really lasts. If I have time Sunday is a walking/reading/blogging/family kind of day, and I like that.

I also like healthy snacks. So I have a tiny bit of a dilemma. But this dilemma has been eased by Nakd Bars.

The Bars
Nakd bars are just raw fruit and nuts pressed together. They're vegan, gluten free, natural, and free from refined sugar. They're easy to eat on the go, and survive at the bottom of your bag for ages without making a mess (Nakd bar 1, banana 0).

Flavours
If you're really after chocolate, then give the cocoa bars a go. They're chocolate bars that count for one of your five a day, how great is that?! If you're after cake, then the Bakewell Tart or Gingerbread bars may be the ones for you. I was very very skeptical, but they really do taste like bakewell tarts and gingerbread. Sure the texture is different (its not a bad thing, its just different), but the taste is there.

Berry or banana bars offer a more fruity taste, and the cashew cookie bar is all about the nuts. If you don't like one, then I'd still recommend trying another - they'are all a bit different.

Protein
They aren't pictured here, but my absolute favorites are from the protein crunch range. The options are more limited, but they follow the same format with the addition of added 'soya crunchies' (soya, tapioca starch, and salt) which ups the not bad 2-4g of protein per bar to 6g.

The idea that meat is the only source of protein is a complete myth, but as a vegetarian I do need to go to a bit more effort to make sure that I'm including the plant based options in my diet. This is such an easy way to do this, Nakd bars are energy foods, and you can get a natural sweet kick at the same time.

Where to Buy/ Price
You can pick up individual bars in most supermarkets, which is great if you're out and need a quick snack, but not so great if you want to stock up. Some larger supermarkets let you buy packs of four, but they never seem to have a massive range in stock. Natural Balance is where I tend to go. Delivery is free and you always get some kind of free sample with your order. You can also get money off when you recommend friends and share the snacking love, and most importantly - can buy in bulk. Boxes of 18 will set you back £13.99, and you can opt for mixed cases if you want to try some new flavors.

Natural Balance also have short-dated stock, in-date but slightly shorter shelf life than normal, for discounted prices.

Let me know if you have a favorite flavour or have any other healthy snack recommendations!

*Natural Balance Foods asked me to review this product and send me a mixed case of Nakd bars to try. All reviews/thoughts/opinions etc etc are all my own, and I have shopped with Natural Balance on previous occasions too :)

    1. I have so much admiration for Vegans. At the moment I'm vegetarian and trying to reduce my diary intake, but it's work in progress. The boxes look really good! I guess The Vegan Kind is a good UK equivalent, but I'll have to keep a look out for some of the brands in the one you linked :)
